Baby Berney #3’s Baby Shower.

Last Sunday, I was extremely lucky to have been thrown a baby shower by my sisters and mum!

Initially I wasn’t sure whether it was a bit rude of me to have a baby shower as I had one for William and wasn’t sure on the etiquette on if it was greedy to have another one for a new baby…But I’m glad it went ahead! Even just for the social side of all my friends and family gathering together for the afternoon – I wasn’t expecting anyone to buy anything (as I’d kept the majority of Williams clothes and baby bits!) but Berney #3 has been spoiled rotten! (even though I said not to buy anything!!)

Martin had the day off work so I decided to take the kids with me to let him have a day of whatever he wanted to do! My sister Rhiannon kindly hosted the event at her house, and it was perfect! Everyone was able to mingle as they pleased and drop in as and when they could.

As is custom with myself and my family, I was later than the 2pm start…so when we arrived there were already a few people there! We did the rounds of greeting everyone, and I was quickly directed to Game Number One: Don’t Say the Word! This is a fabulous game that kept us all on our toes! Rules: Everyone picks up a bow and once you have the bow, you are banned from saying the word “baby.” If you are heard saying the word your bow is taken off you by who heard you. At the end of the day whoever has the most bows wins! As more people arrived the bows were handed out, and everyone was settling in.

It was a simple game, yet rather competitive! It was a fierce competition between my mum-in-law and her mum to start with, but by the end of the day I was bossing it and taking bows left, right and centre! (Plus, a couple people who had to leave early might’ve generously given their bows to me on the way out too…but shh!)
I must say my sisters were excellent hosts! Everyone has a drink in their hand and nibbles were floating about. Once everyone arrived the rest of the games started!

Game Number Two: Guessing Time!

A sheet of paper was handed around with 4 columns on it. The game was for everyone to write their name put down their guesses for baby’s due date, weight and his name! This last column was perhaps a little unfair as a few people had an inkling of what names were on our list!

It seemed quite a unanimous vote that Baby is going to be early…Obviously I don’t know the answer to this yet, but I’m casting my vote and saying I think he’ll be early too! (Perhaps just wishful thinking?) Although one person guessed my due date to be in November…I sincerely hope not! haha. They all also think that he’s going to be 8lb or more, which is quite plausible if he comes on or around his due date.

Game Number Three: Guess The Chocolate Poo

Yep, this one is a popular one at baby showers. Everyone separates into teams of 2-3 people and is handed a piece of paper and a pen. One person (who isn’t playing) melts chocolate into a (clean) nappy and it is then sent around the teams for them to work out what chocolate it is! We found 6 varieties of chocolate was plenty enough. You were allowed to smell, prod, and taste it if you dared, and then you write down the answer on the paper and at the end whoever gets the most correct wins!

Game Number Four: Late Night Nappies/ Decorate a Baby Vest

These ones were set up in the kitchen and were free for guests to write and decorate on as and when they pleased! There were a pile of nappies on one side where guests were invited to leave messages on the nappy which I would be able to read during those “late night nappy changes,” and on the other side were plain baby vests with fabric pens to decorate them with whatever you wanted to put on them!

Game Number Five: How Big is the Bump?

I loved this game! A ball of wool was handed around to everyone with a  pair of scissors. The aim of the game was to guess how big my bump was and cut the wool to your chosen length – with no cheating and measuring me of course! Once everyone had their wool, I was then measured and the correct size was cut. This piece of wool was then sent around the room for everyone to compare their lengths.

After seeing how long some were cutting their wool, I thought I’d have a go! Apparently I’ve been in plain denial as to how big I actually am – my piece of wool didn’t even meet! I must’ve been out by about 15-20cm…haha whoops! Amazingly, my sister Lottie was just about spot on with the length. She did partially cheat though as she measured her own baby bump and added a little extra on! – But all in all, it’s a really simple yet fun game (with lots of laughter!)

Game Number Six: Pair the Socks Up!

The last game of the day. 10 pairs of baby socks were separated and put into a jumbled heap on the floor. Two people then go against each other to see who can pair the most up. Whoever has the most pairs, wins! It’s a quick game, but once again quite competitive!

For me, this was plenty enough games for the afternoon. I really enjoyed the company and just mingling with my friends and family! There was also a lovely spread of food/nibbles for everyone. My family really worked hard to make this day special – and they succeeded! Annie even made the cake! (which, by the way, was delicious!)

As I said earlier, Baby Berney has been spoiled beyond belief, and I am so grateful for everyone who came to the shower and naughtily bought gifts! I’ll be sure to take plenty of photos of him in each adorable outfit, and I am well stocked up on nappies once again! (You can never have too many nappies!)

  1. Looks like you all had a wonderful time! Am glad you had another shower, it’s always nice to celebrate the impending arrival of a new little person and is a nice distraction for waiting for the last few weeks to go by. The gifts are always a lovely bonus too! Xx
