The Baby

The average baby at 39 weeks is around 7.2lb in weight and over 50cm long. A guesstimation for Baby I’d put him around the 9lb-something mark. Let’s be real though, with two giants* as parents, we were never going to have small babies!

(*we aren’t really giants. 6ft & 6ft9in…we’re taller than average…)

Baby is fully cooked now, all his organs are well developed & his skin is getting thicker and he’s now ready to take his first breaths in the big wide world!

This week I’ve felt the baby kick a lot. Hopefully this is a sign he’s getting ready to make his way into the world (or he’s just trying to get comfortable in the limited space he has…) Either way, it still makes me smile to feel him wriggling around. I have a midwife appointment next week I was hoping I wouldn’t need to go to, but it’s not looking that way! So I’ll have the joys of a sweep…I had it with William and it didn’t work, but I’m remaining hopeful.


1 week to go! I honestly can’t tell you how excited I am to see the end line in sight! These past 9 months have had their ups and downs, but mostly it’s just whizzed by so quickly! I was pretty adamant this baby would be early, but only time will tell with that. (note: upon writing this, he is officially late.)  I’ve had many comments this week along the lines of, “oh, you don’t look like you have long left!” A.K.A you’re pretty big! – Well yes, I am! I dread to think how big he’s gonna be when he arrives! And it’s amazing how many people will tell you to have sex to get things going. Or eat pineapple. Or a curry. Or squat/bounce on a ball/ go on a bumpy car ride. Personally, I don’t exactly feel like getting it on – I’m heavy and uncomfortable, when I go to bed, I’m going to sleep thanks. Sorry Martin! I don’t like pineapple or curries all that much (does pineapple juice work? I’ll drink that!) and as for exercise…aha well…I’m one of those “if you see me running, you’d probably better run too because something is coming!” All joking aside though, I know the baby will come either when he’s ready, or when he is served an eviction notice by means of induction.

It’s been a bit of a slow week for me, I’ve really been struggling with getting about, the weight of the bump just suddenly feels like I’m carrying around a lead balloon and everything seems just that bit harder to do now. I’ve tidied the house umpteen times, which you’d never know. I even cleaned my fridge! I’m not sure if I’m helping or hindering myself by doing the minimum…

I’ve been having Braxton hicks for a while now, which as I mentioned in my last update, I didn’t realise that’s what they were! They aren’t any stronger or painful, which I suppose is a good thing, I suppose at least now I know what to expect to feel when the day comes haha.

I went out for dinner with a few school mums this week too, it’s been long overdue and was a great evening out. I’ve tried to find time for myself recently, which has felt amazing to be honest. I wrote earlier about what a good day I’d had and finding a me/mummy balance. I’m really going to try and find a few hours every now and then to enjoy being me, it made me realise how much better a parent I can be.
